Apple is now expected to cause ripples in the foldable smartphone segment with its eagerly awaited iPhone Fold Ultra. As per industry experts, this expensive smartphone could increase the foldable smartphone segment as a whole by up to 20%, thereby becoming the direct competitor of Samsung's successful Galaxy Z Fold series.
Price and Design
The pricing for the device is said to lie within the range of $2,000 - $2,500, which clearly marks the device as one of the company's flagships, complemented by its bold appearance consisting of deep blue and silver colors made out of a light but very strong alloy of titanium and aluminum.
One of the major problems with the folding phones has always been the screen crease that becomes noticeable right along the middle line of the foldable screen. To eliminate this problem, the engineers of Apple have decided to use structural glass with a newly designed liquid metal hinge along with an optical adhesive.
A Dual-Display Setup Built for Flexibility
A dual-screen design has been projected for the iPhone Fold Ultra. For basic tasks, the outer screen, which will be smaller, ranging from 5.4 to 5.5 inches, would be utilized without unfolding the phone. However, unfolding the phone opens up a huge 7.7 to 7.8 inch OLED screen complete with a built-in selfie camera.

What's Powering It
According to rumors, under the hood, the Fold Ultra uses the latest version of Apple's A20 Pro processor, made using the latest 2nm process technology. The chip is combined with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and comes with 256GB of internal storage.
Operating two big screens for the whole day is quite challenging, hence the reason why Apple has integrated a very efficient dual cell battery that ranges between 4,800 to 4,900 mAh.
The Trade-Offs Apple Is Reportedly Making
It looks like some tradeoffs were deliberately made in order to make sure that the Fold Ultra remained as thin as possible. For instance, apparently, Face ID is being sacrificed in favor of side-placed Touch ID that will be integrated into the power button in order to provide quick and secure user authentication without having to open the smartphone.
The camera system is also going to change. Instead of the usual three-lens camera system that exists on modern iPhones, the new device is going to get a two-lens 48MP camera system. It will help to save some space and make the smartphone slimmer, but at the same time, the cameras should be able to take professional pictures.
Will It Win Over Mainstream Buyers?
However, it remains to be seen whether or not the high cost and limited number of cameras will inhibit widespread adoption of the technology. With that said, early tech adopters who are prepared to pay top dollar will surely appreciate the combination of sound engineering and high performance when the device finally ships.
