MG ZS Launched in Pakistan with Hybrid Tech

The latest version of the MG ZS has been introduced in Pakistan, and what makes this iteration special is that the model features technology that has not been offered before on the model – hybrid engine technology. Read on for all details.

A New Generation, With a Hybrid Powertrain

The first iteration of the ZS entered the Pakistani market in 2019 as a 1.5-liter gasoline-powered crossover, followed by an all-electric variant at a later date. This launch marks the introduction of the second iteration, and the most significant thing about it is what lies underneath its bonnet.

While the base version continues to have a naturally-aspirated engine, the two top trims go in for a hybrid system, which is a first for this vehicle in this configuration. Besides that, this iteration is larger than the previous one in length and width.

Three Variants to Choose From

These include the following models of the new MG ZS:

• Vibe – basic configuration, naturally-aspirated
• Excite – mid-level configuration, hybrid
• Essence – top configuration, hybrid

Feature wise, the upgrades of the higher trim levels are really impressive: ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), hybrid drive train, bigger infotainment screen, digital dials, panoramic sunroof, and heated and cooled seats are just some of the things included.

Who Is the New MG ZS Competing Against?

As there are both hybrid and non-hybrid options for the new MG ZS, the vehicle ends up having to contend with two entirely separate competition groups, based on whichever version you're considering.

On one hand, the hybrid models are competing with the rest of the subcompact hybrid SUVs found in Pakistan, including the Jaecoo J5, Haval Jolion, Honda HR-V e:HEV, Suzuki Fronx Mild Hybrid, and Toyota Corolla Cross HEV.

Alternatively, the non-hybrid Vibe model competes in the subcompact SUV class and has to deal with the Peugeot 2008, non-hybrid Honda HR-V, Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Haval Jolion.

Price, Booking, and Delivery

The starting price for the new ZS is Rs 65.9 lacs for the entry-level Vibe model, increasing to Rs 70.9 lacs for the middle-spec Hybrid+ Excite variant and going up to Rs 74.9 lacs for the top of the line Hybrid+ Essence model.

As confirmed by the brand at the launch function, this is limited-period pricing which won’t be impacted by any future taxes, thus securing the buyer in terms of current prices even if there are any changes in the future. In terms of deliveries, the company said that deliveries would begin from September.
