WhattsApp Beta has seen more activity than usual this week, introducing new features that range from chat personalization to group management and including an innovative method of detecting AI-generated content. However, the update that has made headlines is the launch of new themes for Android chats on beta version 2.26.31.2.
Animated Chat Wallpapers Take Center Stage
WhatsApp is working on developing three different types of themes on Android chats and "Featured" happens to be the most popular one because of its unique wallpaper that features slow and subtle movement in order to avoid any distractions during real-life conversations.
On the other hand, "Doodle" is one of the traditional themes that use patterned wallpapers used by the application in the past whereas "Minimal" uses plain white or dark color depending on the settings of the device in question. All three themes automatically change chat bubble colors according to the theme chosen. However, the feature is currently under development and not available for beta testers.
A Quick Recap of the Group and Poll Updates
The Facebook-owned app also brought updates in the form of polls and group chat functionality this week — including anonymity for voter identity, deadlines for polls, ability to edit poll questions, admin's @all feature, and single-click creation of a new group chat from an existing group chat. You can find all these updates elaborated in our previous post about WhatsApp's update for Poll Privacy, which we recommend.

More Control for Mac Beta Testers
However, as far as more practical changes are concerned, Mac beta testers are able to decide whether to opt for the immediate receipt of WhatsApp’s beta update or just go ahead with its reliable weekly update. Thus, this small change allows beta testers using Macs a certain freedom of choice about their willingness to take risks.
A Nudge to Turn On Channel Notifications
WhatsApp is also working on another notification that will help users turn on notifications for the channels that they have recently subscribed to. This is due to the fact that notifications for channels are muted by default and a lot of users might be missing out on notifications from channels that they actually want to follow.
Labeling AI-Generated Content on Channels
One of the most futuristic updates in the works is WhatsApp's efforts toward enabling the administrators of its channels to label messages created via the use of AI technology. In fact, this type of labeling is increasingly turning into an obligatory element in some regions of the globe, so this is not only a useful innovation but also WhatsApp trying to stay ahead of the regulation curve.
