13 Simple Tips How to Lose Weight Naturally

Trying to drop some weight can be a daunting task. There are literally thousands of diet and exercise programs, supplements and weight loss products at our disposal. But when it comes to a lot of us, it doesn't have to be that complicated.

We just have to give our bodies what they need to function optimally and be healthy.

I will try my best to give you some basic but very effective advice on how to lose weight naturally.

You may need to lose a few pounds or maybe just want to specifically lose belly fat. You may want to improve your diet and get healthy but don't know where to start. Well, I hope to help you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle and assist you in shedding those unwanted pounds.

1. Start with small changes

Instead of making a complete overhaul of your lifestyle, you'll want to begin with some small, simple steps. The key is to prioritize changes you know you'll be able to stick with. So, instead of trying to go on a strict diet and fail on the fifth day, you can try something as simple as replacing soda with water, adding veggies to your lunch plate, or going for a short walk around the block.

Small steps are easier to incorporate into your daily life.

2. Eat More Protein

Protein-rich foods are a must on any healthy eating plan.

Aim to include:

  • Eggs
  • Greek yogurt
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Fish
  • Lean beef
  • Beans and lentils
  • Cottage cheese
  • Tofu

A protein-rich breakfast is especially important because it helps you avoid unnecessary hunger pangs later in the morning.

3. Prioritize Whole Foods

This doesn't mean you have to give up the foods you love. You might want to, though, start prioritizing whole, minimally processed foods over their highly processed counterparts. So, instead of refined, processed, and highly caloric foods, focus on eating more fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean meats, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats.

A really simple and effective American-style healthy eating recipe would be to serve grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, and a side dish of either brown rice or potatoes.

4. Ditch Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

It can be extremely confusing to deal with excess belly fat, but you can't spot-reduce it. Instead of trying to get rid of belly fat with a set of ab exercises, you need to focus on getting rid of total fat in your body by reducing calorie intake through diet and increasing calorie expenditure through physical activity.

You can start by replacing sugar-laden soft drinks with healthier alternatives such as:

  • Water
  • Sparkling water
  • Unsweetened teas
  • Black coffee
  • Water with a wedge of lime or lemon

You don't need to give up soda forever; you can just limit your intake.

5. Go For Walks

You don't need to spend hours at the gym to become healthier.

The most accessible form of exercise is, by far, taking walks. You can easily take a walk around the block in the morning, go for a long walk at lunchtime, or take a short walk after dinner.

If you haven't been particularly active until now, you can start by taking 10-20 minutes walks most days of the week.

Weight loss walks are a tremendous tool, especially when combined with a healthy, balanced diet.

6. Avoid Starving Yourself

I mean this in the sense of eating clean. No matter how much you like junk food, you can't eat it every single day, because that would be a diet of its own. A healthy diet, however, doesn't require you to starve yourself. A balanced diet includes both a variety of healthy foods and occasional treats.

7. Eat More Fiber

Foods rich in fiber make you more satiated for longer and are also necessary for good digestion.

Foods to eat to increase your dietary fiber intake include:

  • • Apples
  • • Berries
  • • Pears
  • • Avocados
  • • Oats
  • • Beans
  • • Lentils
  • • Broccoli
  • • Carrots
  • • Whole-grain bread and cereals

You can get fiber into the food you already eat by simply adding a bit more of fiber-rich food to it. A bit of fiber is also a good way to keep you full and avoid overeating.

8. Meal Prepping for Weight Loss

We all lead busy lives, and having the time to cook healthy meals is a luxury these days. The good news is that you can meal prep for weight loss. You don't need to cook seven different meals a day. You can simply cook your basic ingredients (chicken, vegetables, rice, potatoes, beans) a few meals in advance.

Having a stash of healthy meals ready to eat will prevent you from getting takeaway food or eating highly processed and caloric foods.

9. Watch Your Portion Sizes

Healthy foods can still cause weight gain if you overeat them. The key to any diet is to reduce calorie intake and consume calories within your daily caloric expenditure to lose weight or keep the weight off. A good way to keep track of portion sizes is to observe the amount of food on your plates and eat accordingly. So, instead of loading your plate with food, you want to fill it halfway with healthy (non-starchy) vegetables, make a fist with your dominant hand and fill it with protein, and a handful of whole grains, and finish it off with a tablespoon of healthy fats like olive oil or avocado.

A good way to increase satiety is to eat slower and give your brain enough time to process the signal that you're full.

10. Get Enough Sleep

Getting a good sleep is extremely important for all of us, and it plays a crucial role in weight loss. Having an adequate sleep schedule will enable you to make better choices in terms of food and make you likely to exercise and eat more healthily. In addition, lack of sleep has been shown to increase hunger and the likelihood of overeating.

For most adults, a good amount of sleep is between 7 and 9 hours.

11. Don't Starve Yourself

Pizza, burgers, fries, and desserts are all delicious, but you can still eat them and include them in your healthy diet and weight loss plan, as long as you eat them in moderation. You don't need to deprive yourself of the foods you love and give yourself a guilty complex for eating something good. A good alternative is to occasionally give yourself a cheat meal or a cheat day, depending on your preferences.

12. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential for proper functioning of your body. It will keep you full for longer and might even aid weight loss, although there isn't a specific mechanism by which water reduces body fat. You should always carry a water bottle around with you, especially when you're at work, out and about, or at the gym.

If you're not a fan of bland water, you can always add a slice of lime or lemon or unsweetened natural flavors like cucumber, mint, or berries to it.

13. Track Your Progress Outside the Scale

Although your body weight can be a good indicator of your weight status, it's not the only one. You should be aware that the number on the scale changes and isn't an accurate indication of total body fat. Instead, focus on other cues your body gives you that indicate that you're making progress in your fitness journey, such as decreased measurements, improved energy, better performance at the gym, improved sleep patterns, better digestion, and better eating and exercising habits. Keep in mind that those numbers on the scale go up and down depending on the time of the day, the amount of water you have, and the amount of food in your system.

A Simple Weight-Loss Day

Here is an example of a possible daily menu that may help you to lose weight:

Breakfast:

Eggs, whole grain toast, berries, and black coffee.

Lunch:

Grilled chicken salad with vegetables, beans, and dressing.

Snack:

Yogurt and berries or nuts.

Dinner:

Grilled fish or chicken, roasted vegetables, and potatoes or rice.

Activity:

Walking for 20-30 minutes, and a regular active lifestyle.

This is an example of a healthy diet, but the number of calories and the representation of the five food groups may vary significantly from person to person.

Weight Loss for Women Over 30

It is common for women to start thinking about getting healthier as they enter their 30s, 40s, and 50s due to natural changes in their lifestyles and bodies. Therefore, instead of focusing on the "women's fat-burning diet," diet, you should try to eat healthier and more frequently. A well-balanced meal should include protein, complex carbohydrates, fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats.

In addition, women should do regular strength training to preserve muscle mass since it plays an essential role in staying healthy and young.

What About the Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is a popular weight-loss program in the US. Still, it is not obligatory to choose this exact method of weight loss because it may be stressful and uncomfortable for some people. It also depends on what eating pattern you will select – there are a lot of variations, and each of them has its own rules and restrictions. The most crucial point is that fasting helps to maintain a healthy diet if you choose the proper eating plan.

How Long Does It Take To Lose Weight Naturally?

There is no specific period of time during which a person may lose a significant amount of weight.

Everything depends on the person’s current weight, the diet, and the level of physical activity they did before and during their weight loss. Moreover, it also depends on their sleep, genetic characteristics, and the quality of drugs and supplements if they have any medical conditions. Therefore, when trying to lose weight, one should not focus on how quickly the weight is decreasing but rather on how to preserve and improve their health for the rest of their life.
